California native corner Juan’s July plant: Willowy monardella Willowy monardella ( Monardella viminea ) is an extremely rare California native species that’s surprisingly easy to grow. Its slender stems, aromatic foliage and soft pink or purple blooms attract pollinators and thrive in well- draining soil with minimal summer water. Indigenous communities traditionally used its fragrant minty leaves for nonmedicinal purposes, adding cultural significance to this ecologically valuable species.
